Meet the 2020 OGV Estate Pinot Noir

Displaying aromas of bright cherry, dried rose petals, and classic Russian River Valley spice, our 2020 OGV Pinot Noir reveals raspberries, tart cherry, pomegranate, and baking spices on the palate. This classic OGV Estate Pinot that should age and improve for many years to come.

Like our other Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs, this delicious wine is made without any additions of water, acid, enzymes, or tannins, and is fermented with the native yeast on the grapes and the naturally available malolactic bacteria.

How 2020 OGV Estate Faired In A Year Known For Smoke Taint

During Harvest 2020, many Sonoma County vintners’ crops were impacted by a slew of fires that hit the region, including the Wallbridge Fire. The fires began slowly in remote forest locations as a result of lightning strikes on August 17th.

Luckily, grapes at our OGV Estate were unaffected by the smoke. We harvested on August 24th and 31st, before the smoke from the fires drifted to our part of the Russian River Valley. As you can see in pictures we had blue skies when we pressed our 2020 OGV Estate Pinot Noir. The fruit was tested at harvest and the resultant wine was also tested for smoke taint and thankfully the precursors of taint were negligible and well below any threshold that might negatively impact the wine.

The now sold out 2020 OGV Estate Endless Crush Rosé, which we released to very positive reviews last year, as well as the sold out 2020 OGV Estate Pinot Gris were also both unscathed.

Our business was not altogether spared from the challenges of the 2020 fire season. Unfortunately, we had to reject the reliably delicious Pinot Noir grapes from Pratt Vine Hill and Pratt Sexton Ranch Road for smoke taint. The fruit was gorgeous, but the lab tests showed the wines were likely to be tainted. As a result, the 2020 OGV Estate Pinot Noirwill be our only red wine from the 2020 vintage.
