2005 OGV Customer Comments

What other customers said: A Selection of Notes on the 2005 Olivet Grange Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Light, excellent tannins, great acidity and balance, elegant…so pleasant...this is a precious little gem - not the big 20 carat diamond but that little garnet ring that you have treasured because someone you loved gave it to you.”

“In an elegant style. Soft perfume of cherries and spice. Fresh and restrained on the palate.”

“Nice balanced red fruit attack, with a gorgeous floral and baking spice element. One of my favorite RRV pinots.”

“I did receive my 2005 OGV and opened a bottle last weekend. Excellent! You have really achieved a true blending of the Russian River fruit with the finesse and complexity of the Burgundy style. The wine is drinking quite nicely now but little bit of aging will make it even better.”

“A modern miracle, California pinot noir at 22.6 (!!!) brix, finished at 13.2% ABV, and it sure makes a compelling argument for everybody to do it that way. This is a wine of polished elegance, as remarkable for what it lacks as for what it's got. No hint of licorice or cola or any of the other markers we're told are signatures of RRV terroir but are really just signatures of overripeness and fruit-juice winemaking. Even without that there is a certain gloss to the mouthfeel that shows its origins, the shininess hiding all the tannin and any other rough edges, making this a beauty to drink now.”

“Awesome as usual - lovely nose of cherry and earth that translates well onto the palate. This wine is so light and effortless, you will ask yourself why all pinot can't be this way. As the wine evolved through the night, hints of caramel and rose petals came through. The tannins showed themselves a few hours after opening by slightly drying the mouth. The Burg-like soft acidic finish was persistent throughout the night. Very enjoyable now, but will evolve into something awesome over the next 5 years.”

“Light ruby with an intriguing nose of chalk, cherries and spice. Medium bodied with velvety cherry fruit, minerals, earth and spice. Well balanced and elegantly styled with more length and end-to-end palate richness than the '04.”

“2005 Inman Family Wines Pinot Noir Olivet Grange Vineyard Russian River Valley 91 points ($45) Pale red. Vibrant, pure strawberry and raspberry aromas, with crisp mineral and fresh rose notes adding lift and complexity. Crisp, spicy redcurrant and strawberry flavors offer a compelling blend of finesse and power, with fine-grained tannins lending structural support. Finishes with energetic, tangy red berry flavors and excellent length. Lovely, graceful stuff.” By Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellars, May/Jun 07
